Position Overview:
The Cultural Resources GIS Specialist plays a crucial role in the strategic planning, design, and management of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data tailored to meet the diverse needs of various projects. This role requires a deep understanding of ESRI's software suite and involves executing both straightforward and intricate data analyses to deliver valuable insights to clients.

Key Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will be instrumental in enhancing digital data management practices, which include:

  • Creating detailed maps for project plans, technical documentation, and other deliverables.
  • Acquiring Class I data from relevant state and federal agencies.
  • Compiling data packages for submissions to regulatory bodies.
  • Developing GIS layers to assist field teams.
  • Ensuring quality assurance and data integrity of incoming field data.
  • Providing constructive feedback to field personnel regarding data collection.
  • Acting as a liaison between field teams and cultural resource management.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert on data collection methodologies.
  • Collaborating with clients and project teams to define data requirements and project objectives.
  • Producing GIS outputs and conducting surveys using tools like Survey 123 and FieldMaps.
  • Transforming existing environmental data to align with new GIS standards.
  • Maintaining and optimizing data collection, processing, and storage protocols.
  • Conducting quality control on database attributes.
  • Providing technical support for GIS systems and mentoring staff in ESRI ArcGIS software.

Qualifications:
To excel in this role, candidates should possess:

  • Advanced skills in database management.
  • A strong work ethic coupled with excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective time management skills to meet project deadlines.
  • A valid driver's license in good standing.

Education & Experience:
Applicants should have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field is preferred.
  • An Associate's degree or formal training in GIS or related disciplines, along with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Previous experience in GIS projects focusing on cultural resource assessments and field data collection is highly desirable.

Work Environment:
This position primarily involves office work, with occasional fieldwork to support survey operations. The role is designed to be flexible, accommodating remote work while requiring some in-person project management meetings.

Communication Skills:
Strong oral and written communication skills are essential, with fluency in English required for report writing and project documentation.

Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with Microsoft Power BI is expected.
