About the Role

Tetra Tech is seeking a highly skilled Cultural Resources GIS Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the planning, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of GIS data in accordance with the requirements of various projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform complex data analyses to provide clients with desired deliverables.
  • Develop and manage relational databases.
  • Produce client deliverables, including report figures, data visualizations, and web applications.
  • Prepare maps for work plans, management summaries, technical reports, and other deliverables.
  • Procure Class I data from state historic preservation offices and agencies.
  • Prepare data packages as part of submittals to agencies and state historic preservation offices.
  • Prepare GIS layers to inform field crews.
  • Support quality assurance and quality control, as well as data scrubbing of incoming field data.
  • Provide data collection feedback for field crews.
  • Liaise between field crews and cultural management.
  • Serve as a key expert on data collection tools and functionalities.
  • Interface with clients, DoD cooperators, and project GIS teams for cultural requests on scope.
  • Support ad hoc GIS/mapping/data management requests from media managers, field leads, and principal investigators.
  • Produce GIS products and develop surveys using Survey 123 and/or FieldMaps.
  • Develop cultural resources data layers for various environmental aspects, including field survey, construction monitoring, and data recovery.
  • Convert pre-existing environmental data to conformance with new data layers.
  • Maintain and refine procedures for data collection, processing, and storage.
  • Meet with clients and project teams to define data needs, project requirements, or required outputs.
  • Develop GIS projects consisting of vector, raster, and tabular data.
  • Responsible for the development and production of reports, presentations, maps, and models for various environmental, utility, and cultural resources projects.
  • Perform quality control on database attributes.
  • May require operation and maintenance of GIS system hardware, software, plotter, digitizer, color printer, and video camera.
  • Provide geospatial technical support.
  • Mentor staff and clients with ESRI ArcGIS software, digital data collection, and data management.
  • Occasionally deploy to the field to support field operations.
Requirements
  • Complex database management skills preferred.
  • Strong work ethic and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • A valid driver's license in good standing.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field preferred.
  • Associate's degree or other formal training in GIS or a related program, plus 5 years of experience, is the minimum accepted criteria.
  • Previous GIS project experience with a focus on cultural resource projects, assessment surveys, evaluative testing, monitoring, and field data collection is highly preferred.
