Job Overview

Homes for the Homeless, Inc. is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to serve as the Administrator at our family shelter in Jamaica, Queens, NY. This role requires a strong leader who can effectively manage multidisciplinary teams and ensure a safe, supportive, and structured environment for residents and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct supervision and management to department directors, including Social Services, Childcare, Recreation, Security, Maintenance, and Administration.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to Department of Homeless Services program administrators and report to governing agencies.
  • Ensure facility compliance with State and Local Laws and regulations, and maintain a level of excellence in program and facility operations.
  • Develop and maintain quality assurance procedures and practices, and ensure proper service provision.
  • Attend meetings, conferences, and seminars to stay knowledgeable in the field of homeless services and stay up-to-date on current policies and proposed policies.
  • Recommend hiring, promotions, and make corrective and termination decisions in line with agency personnel policies.
  • Review purchasing, payroll, and petty cash to ensure compliance with HFH procedures.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to local service providers and community leaders to maintain a good relationship with the community.
Requirements
  • Commitment to HFH's mission, vision, and values.
  • Master's Degree preferred, or a Bachelor's Degree in related fields.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience in social services or a relevant field, with at least four (4) years in a management or supervisory role.
  • Experience managing a Tier II facility welcomed.
  • Ability to provide customer service to residents and other stakeholders, and ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Exceptional leadership skills in dealing with both staff and residents.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with emphasis on face-to-face, empathetic communication with staff and shelter residents.
  • Bilingual is a plus.
