Role Overview:
This position is situated within the Lunar Transportation division, which is responsible for the creation of Blue Origin's various Blue Moon lander product lines.
In alignment with our vision of enabling human presence in space, we are establishing a sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.
As a key member of a dedicated team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will take on the role of Technical Lead for our Gas Generation team focused on Lunar Transportation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical guidance and support to team members, leveraging your expertise to tackle complex challenges in cryogenic propellant systems.
- Design a system to convert cryogenic liquids into gaseous fuel for lunar landers.
- Mentor and train team members, fostering their professional growth.
- Oversee the entire lifecycle of the system, including definition, interfaces, conceptual design, detailed design, component development, assembly, verification, and operation.
- Manage schedules, assess risks, and formulate mitigation strategies for hardware components.
- Collaborate with internal and external suppliers to design, construct, test, and evaluate components essential for lunar missions.
- Engage directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) initiative.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Over 8 years of experience in fluid and mechanical systems/components.
- Proven experience in developing, integrating, and certifying new cryogenic aerospace systems for flight.
- Expertise in applications involving LH2, LOX, GH2, and GOX, particularly in components such as heat exchangers, pumps, turbomachinery, or combustors.
- Experience in providing technical leadership and mentoring to early to mid-career engineers.
- Strong understanding of cryogenic fluid behavior and 1D flow analysis.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interface with external stakeholders.
- Familiarity with agile or waterfall project management methodologies.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or legally admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
- Willingness to work on-site with occasional travel.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience in Systems Engineering, particularly in requirements and interface definition, management, and verification.
- Familiarity with upper stages and spacecraft.
- Experience with the complete lifecycle of propulsion or fluid systems.
