Job Overview

A Certified Respiratory Therapist is responsible for delivering and managing respiratory care services, including the administration of oxygen and therapeutic gases, in alignment with physician directives. This role encompasses comprehensive management of therapeutic diagnostics, ventilator care, and tracheotomy procedures for residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans with specific respiratory objectives based on the patient's capabilities and tolerance, under physician supervision.
  • Evaluate patient requirements; strategize, assess, and adjust care to achieve respiratory therapy goals.
  • Administer non-invasive procedures, including CPAP and BIPAP therapies.
  • Provide education and guidance to staff on fundamental respiratory therapy techniques.
  • Engage in diagnostic assessments, treatment, and management of abnormalities in the cardiopulmonary system.
  • Collaborate with nursing personnel to collect blood gas samples and conduct basic analyses.
  • Work alongside multidisciplinary teams to establish and review collective goals for each patient.
  • Set realistic and attainable objectives for residents.
  • Document and maintain records of patients' conditions and progress in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Educate patients and their families on appropriate therapy methods.
  • Enhance patient functionality and skills by overseeing the screening of all residents.
  • Communicate patient status and needs effectively to patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ensure consistent punctuality and attendance for assigned shifts.

Additional Duties

  • Offer consultation and clinical oversight to Respiratory Therapy Assistants within the facility.
  • Conduct responsibilities in accordance with the company’s Code of Conduct, policies, applicable federal and state laws, and professional standards.
  • Perform other assigned tasks as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Program and a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). An Associate or Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Health Sciences or related fields is preferred.

  • Licenses/Certifications: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
  • Proficiency in Trach Care and Ventilator Management in skilled nursing or hospital settings.
  • Current CPR certification.

  • Experience: Six months of experience in a long-term care environment is preferred.
