A Licensed Respiratory Therapist is responsible for delivering and overseeing respiratory care services, including the administration of oxygen and therapeutic gases, in alignment with physician directives. This role encompasses the management of ventilator care, tracheotomy procedures, and various respiratory therapies for residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a tailored treatment plan with specific respiratory objectives based on the patient's capabilities and tolerance, under physician supervision.
- Evaluate patient requirements; strategize, assess, and adjust care to achieve respiratory therapy goals.
- Administer non-invasive treatments, including CPAP and BIPAP therapies.
- Provide education and guidance to team members regarding fundamental respiratory therapy techniques.
- Engage in diagnostic assessments, treatment, and management of abnormalities in the patient's cardiopulmonary system.
- Work collaboratively with nursing staff to collect blood gas samples and conduct basic analyses.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to establish and review collective goals for each patient.
- Set realistic and attainable objectives for residents.
- Document and maintain records of patients' conditions and progress in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Educate patients and their families on appropriate therapy methods.
- Enhance the functionality and skills of residents by overseeing the screening process.
- Communicate patient status and requirements effectively to patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Ensure consistent attendance and punctuality for assigned shifts.
Additional Duties
- Provide consultation and clinical oversight to Respiratory Therapy Assistants (RTA) within the facility.
- Conduct responsibilities in accordance with the company's Code of Conduct, policies, applicable federal and state laws, and professional standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program and hold a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). An Associate or Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Health Sciences or related fields is preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
- Experience in tracheostomy care and ventilator management within skilled nursing facilities, long-term acute care hospitals, or hospital settings.
- Current CPR certification.
Experience:
- Preferred six months of experience in a long-term care environment.
