Museum Preservation Expert

We are seeking a highly skilled Conservation Specialist to join our team at the Smithsonian Institution. As a key member of our conservation team, you will be responsible for providing expert conservation services to our museum collections, ensuring their preservation and protection for future generations.

• Examine and analyze museum collections to determine the nature of the objects and their materials, and develop conservation treatments to preserve and protect them.
• Conduct research and stay up-to-date with the latest conservation techniques and technologies to ensure the highest level of care for our collections.
• Collaborate with other conservators, curators, and scientists to develop and implement conservation plans and strategies.
• Represent the Smithsonian Institution at national and international meetings, conferences, and symposia to promote our conservation efforts and share best practices.

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant field, such as conservation, art history, or materials science.
• At least 2 years of experience in conservation, preferably in a museum or cultural institution.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including curators, scientists, and the public.
