Conservation Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Conservation Specialist to join our team at the Smithsonian Institution. As a key member of our conservation team, you will be responsible for providing expert conservation services to our museum collections, including paintings, artworks, and other cultural artifacts.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct thorough examinations and assessments of museum collections to identify conservation needs and develop treatment plans.
- Develop and implement conservation treatments, including cleaning, consolidation, and restoration of artworks and cultural artifacts.
- Collaborate with curators, conservators, and other stakeholders to ensure that conservation treatments are aligned with the museum's collection management policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain accurate records of conservation treatments, including documentation of materials, techniques, and results.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest conservation techniques, technologies, and best practices through ongoing professional development and training.
- Master's degree in conservation, art history, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in conservation, with a focus on paintings and artworks.
- Proven track record of successful conservation treatments and projects.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with curators, conservators, and other stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively.
