Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Automation Control Systems Specialist to join our team at QPS Employment Group. This is a direct hire opportunity in Franklin, WI.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, testing, maintaining, inspecting, modifying, and repairing all automation equipment, components, and control systems using a thorough knowledge of electronics, robotics, fiber optic sensors, and pneumatic-hydraulic controls.

Responsibilities:
  • Install, test, maintain, inspect, modify, and repair all automation equipment, components, and control systems.
  • Abide by all regulations required by NEC, NFPA 70 E, and State requirements.
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors to maintain plant operations and support new projects.
  • Perform instrument control programming and configuration, including pressure/temperature transmitters, RTDs, PLCs, HMIs, and other control logic devices.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose the cause of electronic or mechanical malfunctions using knowledge, manuals, SOPs, specifications, and workplace aids.
  • Identify root causes and corrective actions for equipment and system alarms and jams.
  • Communicate directly with equipment suppliers, contractors, and vendors as necessary.
  • Calibrate plant instruments, including valves, pressure, temperature, level, flow, pH, conductivity, weight, force, and speed instruments.
  • Resolve and repair system faults and anomalies associated with installation, operation, maintenance, and connectivity problems, including changes, adjustments, and modifications to control code and standard operating parameters.
  • Complete system updates and debugs PLC, HMI, and other control logic software that supports devices.
  • Perform routine preventative and corrective maintenance and testing on equipment.
  • Perform a large variety of tests on all electrical and electronic systems.
  • Dismantle, clean, repair, and test electrical, electronic, and mechanical components.
  • Heavy coordination with engineers and external sources for timely repairs or replacement of parts to ensure machine downtime is minimal.
  • Maintain preventative maintenance logs and accurate records of all testing and repairs.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork through demonstrating, teaching, reviewing, and providing guidance.
  • Follow and promote all health and safety rules, regulations, and practices.
  • Lock out equipment for proper and safe handling and servicing.
  • Troubleshoot problems with plant instrumentation and automation equipment, including valves, pressure, temperature, level, flow, conductivity, speed, force instruments, motor controls, PLCs, HMIs, etc.
  • Work together with co-workers and other department personnel.
  • Perform maintenance/PMs as needed on all equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Work a flexible schedule and overtime as needed.
  • Adhere to the company code of ethics and actively apply the company values.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • AS degree in industrial controls technologies or related field; or 3-5 years of experience in instrumentation/automation field; or combination of education and experience.
  • PLC, HMI, or DCS certifications preferred.
  • Calibration experience a plus.
  • H.A.R.T. communication experience a plus.
  • CMMS software experience preferred.
  • Must have advanced-level understanding of automated control systems and integration, electronics, robotics, fiber optic sensors, pneumatic-hydraulic controls, HMI touch panels, and PLC programming.
