POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary responsibility of the Industrial Boiler Specialist at Willbanks, Inc. is to effectively operate, repair, maintain, and adjust boiler systems, including pumps, water lines, steam lines, valves, and associated equipment. This role requires the ability to troubleshoot complex issues in heating boilers and fuel power boilers, necessitating sound judgment to identify malfunctions.
Our specialists work in various industrial settings such as manufacturing facilities, power generation plants, educational campuses, healthcare institutions, and large commercial properties. Once the boiler systems are operational, the Industrial Boiler Specialist will document their service activities through required paperwork.
This position may require working a rotating on-call schedule, potentially covering all days of the week during peak demand periods. Our specialists are expected to be available during various hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, reporting directly to the field service manager. The typical workday runs from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions to determine the root cause and appropriate corrective measures.
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks in accordance with established protocols.
- Plan and execute work based on blueprints, sketches, specifications, and work orders.
- Troubleshoot complex issues in heating systems and fuel power boilers, requiring judgment to locate faults.
- Read and interpret schematics effectively.
- Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot systems without schematics.
- Follow both written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Possess extensive knowledge of boiler control systems, including Autoflame, Honeywell, Fireye, Raypack, and Siemens.
- Understand the distinctions between domestic hot water, hydronic hot water, steam, and hot oil systems.
- Operate combustion analysis equipment proficiently.
- Read and interpret manometers, whether electronic or slack tube.
- Utilize and understand multi-meters effectively.
- Troubleshoot boilers and auxiliary equipment competently.
- Retrofit control systems in the field as necessary.
- Maintain company-issued tools, laptops or tablets, credit cards, and vehicles.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated ability to accomplish duties and projects efficiently and cost-effectively.
- Strong mechanical and electrical background is essential.
- Support fellow technicians and management in internal and external projects.
- Knowledge of PLCs, transformers, transmitters, and other control systems.
- Wire controls and motors for water tube and firetube boilers and auxiliary equipment.
- Familiarity with condensate tanks and deaerators.
- Read and comprehend wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Capable of troubleshooting, firing, and setting combustion on various boiler types.
- Determine necessary components for firing any boiler, including valve trim and regulator specifications.
- Fire and set combustion on boilers utilizing both pneumatic and electrical controls.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures.
- Exhibit professionalism and reliability as a team player or independent worker.
- Ability to lift over 50 lbs as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- At least 2 years of experience in a similar role is required.
- High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a technology program in Boilers or HVAC.
- TWIC Card is required (Company paid).
- HASC - Houston area safety council, basic+ certification is required (Company paid).
- Prior OSHA 10 Safety training is preferred.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving record is required.
- Must pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.
