Job Opportunity

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a highly skilled postdoctoral researcher to join our team in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences. The successful candidate will have a strong background in atmospheric science, hydroclimate change, data analysis, and numerical modeling.

Research Focus

The researcher will develop a methodology to derive future projected runoff and reservoir evaporation for a select river basin in Texas, collaborating with the Texas Water Development Board. This project will provide an opportunity to work with a highly vibrant city and access numerous activities beyond the research and academic experience through UT Austin.

Responsibilities

  • Proficiency in analyzing climate data from CMIP6 or similar datasets.
  • Strong skills in managing large datasets, including climate projections and hydrological data.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as NCAR Command Language (NCL), Python, R, or MATLAB for data processing and analysis.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Atmospheric or Hydrological Sciences.
  • PhD must have been earned within the past three years.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Climate Science, Hydrology or related field.
  • Proven experience with Earth system models (ESMs) and downscaling techniques.
  • Expertise in hydrological models, particularly those related to streamflow and reservoir evaporation.
  • Experience with bias correction techniques such as quantile mapping.
  • Experience in performing sensitivity analysis and uncertainty quantification in hydrological projections.
  • Demonstrated ability to document methodologies and findings in detailed technical reports.
  • Experience in preparing project deliverables and progress presentations.
  • Ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse stakeholders, including water planners and environmental agencies.

Working Conditions
