Job Overview

Position: Personal Care Attendant

Work Environment:

  • Operates within clients' homes under various conditions; potential exposure to bodily fluids and infectious diseases; must possess the flexibility to adapt to varying schedules and travel locally; may encounter adverse weather conditions.

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • Requires extended periods of standing and walking. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist clients in mobility is essential.
  • Must be capable of working under pressure to meet deadlines, assess client needs, make prompt decisions, and address the psychosocial requirements of clients and their families.
  • Requires manual dexterity and coordination.
  • Must be proficient in using durable medical equipment in a home setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Encourage positive, respectful, and supportive communication with clients, their families, and agency staff.
  • Deliver personal assistance or health-related services to clients in accordance with their Individualized Service Plan.
  • Accurately report any changes to ensure seamless continuity of care.
  • Adhere to established infection control protocols and maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.
  • Contribute to the effective management and operations of the agency while demonstrating strong time management skills.
  • Show commitment to professional development by attending mandatory training sessions.
  • Support the agency's philosophy and policies to ensure high-quality care.
  • Fulfill ongoing education requirements as mandated by the agency and licensing authorities.
  • Engage in the agency's Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
  • Participate in agency-sponsored training programs.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or enrollment in a vocational training program is required.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license or reliable transportation for travel to assignments.
  • Experience in personal care services, including family care, primary home care, or client-managed attendant services.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in Spanish and demonstrate competence in tasks assigned by supervisors. A genuine interest in the well-being of elderly and disabled individuals is essential.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check and an Employee Misconduct Registry check.

Relationship Guidelines:

  • Must not have a familial relationship with the client.
