About EdNavigator
Established in 2015, EdNavigator is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting busy parents and caregivers in fostering their children's academic success and overall well-being. We collaborate with prominent pediatric healthcare providers to bridge the divide between health and educational requirements, particularly for children from families facing economic, cultural, or linguistic obstacles in accessing quality education. Through these innovative partnerships, pediatricians and primary care providers can link families to expert Navigators who deliver tailored advice and support concerning school enrollment, special education procedures, and various educational challenges. EdNavigator currently operates in multiple regions, supporting over 500 families annually. In 2020, EdNavigator was recognized as one of Fast Company's 10 Most Innovative Companies in Education.
Role Overview
We are seeking a full-time Navigator for Special Education. In this capacity, you will act as a personal education advisor for families referred to EdNavigator by local pediatricians across various regions, including many Spanish-speaking families. Your responsibilities will include managing referrals, connecting virtually with families to assist them in navigating school enrollment and special education systems, and ensuring their inquiries or concerns are addressed promptly. This is a remote position that demands a high level of self-motivation, creativity, persistence, and communication skills, along with a genuine passion for aiding families in their educational journeys.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver respectful, proactive, and impactful educational guidance and support.
- Effectively communicate and build strong, trusting relationships with families and educational institutions.
- Engage with families via video or phone for essential school meetings (e.g., IEP eligibility assessments).
- Develop practical solutions to challenges faced by families and students.
- Establish effective routines and systems for managing complex educational needs.
- Maintain detailed records of interactions with families in EdNavigator's data systems.
- Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to collaborative events.
- Share expertise and insights during internal training sessions and advocacy efforts.
- Assist colleagues with various aspects of EdNavigator's initiatives as required.
- Support a minimum of 140 families each year in successfully addressing their educational needs.
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will possess a profound understanding of educational systems, a strong belief in the right of every family to access quality education, and at least four years of proven success working directly with students and/or families in educational settings (preferably as a classroom teacher or special educator). Additionally, candidates should be:
- Fluent in Spanish (required).
- Well-versed in special education policies and procedures.
- Flexible, inquisitive, and open to learning and feedback.
- Friendly, collaborative, and team-oriented.
- Self-disciplined and capable of thriving in a virtual work environment.
- An excellent communicator who conveys messages clearly and adapts to diverse audiences.
- Organized and adept at balancing multiple priorities, deadlines, and data management systems.
- Results-driven and able to navigate uncertainty or ambiguity.
- A creative, persistent problem-solver with a strong sense of urgency toward achieving goals.
- Comfortable providing insights and constructive feedback to support the organization's mission and growth.
- Committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Proficient with technology, including Slack, Dropbox, MS Office, and Google products.
- Able to travel occasionally for team meetings.
- Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and prepared to provide necessary medical documentation as required.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary for this position is $78,750, with the potential for a performance-based bonus of up to 15 percent. At EdNavigator, you will be part of a diverse team of talented colleagues in an innovative, mission-driven environment. We offer a comprehensive benefits package effective from the first day of employment, which includes:
- A flexible, home-office based working environment, including a home office setup allowance.
- Premium health, dental, and vision insurance for you and your family.
- Generous paid time off each year.
- A 401(k) / Roth IRA retirement savings plan with company matching.
- Optional additional voluntary benefits.
- Access to an annual individual professional development budget of $3,000.
