Position Overview:
The Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant works under the guidance of a licensed Physical Therapist to deliver physical therapy services to patients in their residences. This role is essential in executing treatment plans aimed at enhancing mobility, alleviating pain, restoring functionality, and preventing disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the formulation and execution of the interdisciplinary care plan related to Physical Therapy.
- Administer treatments to alleviate discomfort and promote functional recovery using various physical modalities such as exercise, massage, and electrotherapy.
- Educate and support clients and their families regarding the physical therapy process.
- Instruct clients on the proper use of adaptive devices including wheelchairs, braces, and prosthetics.
- Coordinate outpatient services for necessary procedures.
- Document all treatments and patient responses promptly and accurately.
- Collaborate with the Physical Therapist and other team members to ensure comprehensive care.
- Participate in case discussions, staff meetings, and training programs as required.
- Conduct timely reassessments and maintain effective scheduling.
- Gather medical histories pertinent to the current condition and assist in developing a rehabilitative care plan.
- Monitor and report any adverse reactions to treatments to the Physical Therapist.
- Engage in discharge planning and assist in completing the Physical Therapy Discharge Summary.
- Fulfill additional duties as assigned by the Physical Therapist or Supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to access clients' homes.
- Physical ability to perform assessments and provide care, including lifting and moving clients.
- Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
- Current licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant in the state.
- Minimum of one year of experience in an acute or sub-acute care setting.
