Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Nursing Skills Laboratory Instructor to join our team at Florida Gateway College. As a key member of our academic faculty, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and implementation of the skills laboratory and simulation environments within the Department of Nursing & Health Sciences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement policies and procedures for skills laboratory and simulation environments.
  • Prepare skills laboratory and simulation rooms for practice, skills check-offs, and simulation scenarios.
  • Engage in skills practice, check-offs, and simulation scenarios based on curricular content and level.
  • Use best practice strategies for debriefing and evaluation of students' learning from simulation scenarios.
  • Assist with maintaining a clean, safe, and well-equipped skills laboratory and simulation area.
  • Utilize the nursing process and clinical judgment while teaching nursing skills and conducting simulation scenarios.
  • Maintain a professional work environment and ensure proper functioning equipment.
  • Participate in the orientation of new students in the skills laboratory and simulation environment.
  • Engage in professional development activities to promote effective teaching and learning pedagogy in skills laboratory and simulation scenarios.
  • Use current technology in the teaching-learning process.
  • Maintain policies, standards, and practices based on occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Assist with scheduling skills laboratory and simulation for relevant nursing courses, including skills lab testing and retesting.
  • Assist students in achieving proficiency in nursing skills.
  • Supervise skills lab practice times for students.
  • Use assessment strategies to support the continuous development of learners.
  • Use effective communication techniques with students and stakeholders.
  • Engage in continuous professional quality improvement for self and school.
  • Use teaching and learning strategies that reflect each student's culture, learning styles, special needs, and socioeconomic background.
  • Promote learning in a non-threatening skills lab/simulation environment.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support student success.
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct of the Education Profession in Florida.
  • Use an understanding of learning and human development to create a positive learning environment that supports student growth.
Requirements
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Florida.
  • Holds a Master's degree in nursing.
  • One year of teaching experience in academic or healthcare settings and three years of clinical nursing experience.
  • At least six months of experience in simulation and/or skills lab teaching is preferred.
Work Environment
