Position Summary:
The Clinical Laboratory Technologist is responsible for executing a variety of laboratory tests that require both technical expertise and precision. This role involves operating sophisticated laboratory equipment to generate essential data that aids in diagnosing and treating medical conditions. The technologist will exercise independent judgment in interpreting test results and will ensure the accuracy of quality control measures. Additionally, this position includes mentoring colleagues and collaborating with healthcare professionals to provide outstanding service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collects and processes various specimens from patients across all age groups, ensuring proper handling and documentation. Evaluates sample acceptability and completes necessary rejection forms when required.
- Handles administrative tasks including filing, billing, and report management. Provides assistance to hospital staff and patients, ensuring the accuracy of all laboratory records and test results.
- Operates as a medical technologist within licensed areas, performing tests on acceptable specimens to deliver timely and precise results. Demonstrates proficiency in instrument operations, calibrations, and quality control protocols, while troubleshooting as needed.
- Contributes to the development and refinement of laboratory procedures and applications.
- Adheres to safety protocols and utilizes personal protective equipment, maintaining a sanitized work environment.
Qualifications:
Education: Associate of Science degree with licensure as a Medical Lab Technologist; Bachelor of Science degree is preferred.
Experience: 2-4 years in a clinical laboratory setting; over 5 years is preferred.
Skills: Strong ability to learn and retain information quickly, with a keen attention to detail. Proficient in using laboratory instruments and software, demonstrating self-direction.
Knowledge: Familiarity with standard laboratory practices and information, with extensive knowledge gained through experience.
Abilities: Effective communication skills in reading, writing, and speaking.
