Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Machine Technician to join our team at the Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES). The successful candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude and excellent problem-solving skills, with a passion for advancing technology in the energy field.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain various machines in our state-of-the-art machine shop, including lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and CNC machines.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints to fabricate precision parts.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot machinery to ensure efficient operation and perform routine maintenance as needed.
  • Assist in the design and fabrication of prototype models for experiments and research projects.
  • Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and technicians to improve machinery and processes.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety protocols and regulations.
  • Keep detailed records of machine maintenance and repairs.
  • Train and supervise junior technicians and operating personnel.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience working as a Machine Technician or in a similar role.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, technical certification or Associate's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machine operations.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Experience operating and maintaining lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and CNC machines.
  • Familiarity with welding and metal fabrication processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and ability to adhere to safety regulations.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing project needs and schedules.
Working Conditions

The Machine Technician will primarily work in the machine shop at the CAES facility. This will include standing for long periods of time, lifting heavy objects, and operating machinery. The technician must also be comfortable working in a noisy and dusty environment.
