We are seeking a highly skilled Mortgage Underwriter to join our team at Finance of America Companies. As a Mortgage Underwriter, you will play a critical role in evaluating and analyzing loan packages to ensure investment quality loan products.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate and analyze loan packages, including credit and collateral documentation, to ensure compliance with company and investor guidelines.
- Work closely with loan originators to structure loans that meet salability requirements.
- Verify accuracy of calculations and analyze income using personal and corporate tax returns.
- Collaborate with processing and funding departments to ensure all underwriting conditions are met prior to loan closing.
- Identify and resolve deficiencies in loan files that do not meet investor, FHA, VA, or company guidelines.
- Maintain accuracy and competency in utilizing the company's system of record for automated underwriting of loan files.
- Ensure compliance with all automated underwriting certifications for approved loans.
- Communicate loan decisions verbally and in writing, adhering to company-approved formats.
- Exercise discretion and analytical skills to detect discrepancies in documentation and protect the company from fraudulent practices.
- Meet company and investor guidelines by ensuring timely underwriting of loans and maintaining acceptable turn times.
- Sign off on conditions in accordance with policies and procedures set by credit officers.
- Perform appraisal reviews and work closely with in-house appraisal staff to conduct secondary/desk reviews.
- Respond timely to audits and maintain acceptable post-funding audit results within specified tolerance levels.
- Attend and participate in departmental meetings.
- Stay up-to-date on government regulations and company guidelines.
- Work closely with underwriting management to resolve questions and issues.
- Escalate issues within the company's prescribed process.
- Adhere to company standards for integrity, client focus, teamwork, and respect for individuals in every interaction.
- Exhibit a sense of urgency in executing job functions and duties.
- Meet or exceed customer service delivery levels established by the company.
- High school diploma required; BA - Bachelor of Arts preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in the mortgage industry.
- 1-3 years of Reverse DE experience.
- Current knowledge of industry guidelines and procedures, as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
- DE Approval and CHUMS number.
- Knowledge of mortgage underwriting.
- Analytical skills.
- Detail-oriented.
- Highly organized.
- Multi-tasking and prioritization skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under time constraints.
- Ability to organize and coordinate projects.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to adapt to change quickly.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team player.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
The base salary range for this position is ($93,600 - $127,600), inclusive of all geographical differences in the labor market. The base salary will be determined based on factors such as work location, skills, education, and experience.
