Job Overview

The Community Safety Technician (CST) plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the community by executing various responsibilities in alignment with the policies and guidelines of the Drexel Heights Fire District. This position is a civilian, entry-level, part-time role, averaging 20 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

  1. Develop a thorough understanding of the District's policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
  2. Conduct general maintenance tasks, including minor repairs and cleaning, to uphold the condition and appearance of District facilities and equipment.
  3. Engage with the community through safety programs and educational activities focused on medical and fire prevention topics, ensuring to document any necessary training and certifications.
  4. Participate in pre-fire assessments, maintaining awareness of geographical areas and specific hazards within the District.
  5. Foster positive relationships with both the public and District staff.
  6. Adhere to safety protocols, reporting any unsafe conditions or activities, and utilize appropriate protective gear when required.
  7. Utilize electronic reporting systems for documentation and incident reporting, proficiently using Microsoft Office applications such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  8. Provide logistical support as needed, including responding to incidents as directed.
  9. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Capacity to think clearly and swiftly in emergency situations.

2. Ability to effectively listen and apply instructions and information.

3. Proficiency in reading and understanding technical documents and manuals.

4. Familiarity with laws and regulations pertinent to the District.

5. Comprehensive knowledge of the District's geography.

6. Ability to interact firmly yet courteously with the public.

7. Demonstrated good judgment and reliability.

8. Competence in reading, writing clearly, and effective verbal communication.

9. Ability to maintain composure under pressure.

10. Commitment to upholding high ethical standards.

Minimum Qualifications

1. High School Diploma or equivalent GED.

2. Possession of a valid Arizona Driver's License.

3. Absence of felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history within the last ten years.

4. Ability to meet the physical fitness standards set by the District and its medical personnel.
