Job Description

Role Summary:

Inova Health System's Fairfax Hospital is seeking a highly skilled Transplant Nutrition Educator to join our heart and lung transplant multidisciplinary team. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with professionals passionate about providing excellence in organ transplant care.

About the Role:

This is a PRN position that will cover PTO, increased volumes, and progressive growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nutrition and experience working with organ transplant patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Implement Nutritional Assessment Policies: Develop, review, and revise organ-specific transplant nutritional assessment policies at least annually or as needed to comply with updates to best practice or regulatory changes.
  • Provide Clinical, Educational, and Behavioral Assessment: Provide individual clinical, educational, and behavioral assessment specific to organ transplant appropriateness, including frailty and functional assessments. Develop patient-specific medical nutrition therapy programs, including assessment, instruction, and evaluation of program effectiveness.
  • Recommend Pharmacologic and Non-Pharmacologic Therapies: Provide recommendations regarding pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies.
  • Serve as a Transplant Nutrition Expert Resource: Serve as a transplant nutrition expert resource to the multidisciplinary team.
  • Represent the Transplant Nutritional Assessment and Education Program: Represent the transplant nutritional assessment and education program in department, hospital, and system-level continuing education offerings.
  • Develop and Facilitate Patient Education and Support Groups: Develop and facilitate patient education and support groups.
  • Develop and Facilitate Quality Assessment and Practice Improvement Initiatives: Develop and facilitate quality assessment and practice improvement initiatives.
  • Represent the Transplant Nutritional Assessment and Patient Education Program to Regulatory Surveyors: Represent the transplant nutritional assessment and patient education program to regulatory surveyors as required.
  • Perform Other Duties as Assigned: Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Hours: PRN
  • Location: Inova Fairfax Medical Campus
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in food and nutrition or dietetics
  • Experience: 4 years of solid organ transplant nutrition experience
  • Licensure/Certifications: Certified Clinical Transplant Dietitian (certifying body is NATCO) as a certification to be required within 12 months of hire; Registered Dietitian
