In the realm of Risk Management, the Liability Legal Coordinator plays a pivotal role in overseeing various functions, including the monitoring and response to discovery requests in General Liability and Fleet litigation against Publix. This position involves assisting in the evaluation and management of legal services provided by external counsel, ensuring that Publix receives top-notch legal representation while actively seeking to minimize legal expenditures. The coordinator will also have opportunities to engage in additional projects and professional development on an as-needed basis. Furthermore, the coordinator may initiate property damage subrogation claims and represent Publix in small claims court hearings.

Key Responsibilities:

• Receive, open, record, and process electronic correspondence on a daily basis.

• Foster communication and build relationships with various departments within Publix to gather essential information for defending the company in Liability lawsuits.

• Participate in various claims and legal projects as assigned.

Year-End Bonus:

As a year-end incentive, Publix provides associates with an additional month's pay (pro-rated for the first year) if they remain employed through the bonus check issuance date. This is reflected as a 13th month of pay in the Potential Annual Pay with Bonus section above.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• A minimum of two (2) years of experience as a litigation paralegal within a corporation, government agency, or law firm, or two years of experience with general liability claims in a law office, government agency, insurance claims office, or corporate risk management department. Relevant experience may also include personal injury, liability, insurance defense, or premises liability paralegal work.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word)
    • Various state court systems where Publix operates
    • Timelines and procedures from service of process to bench trials
    • The operations of attorney's offices and various state entities
  • Skills:
    • Analytical and problem-solving abilities
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to:

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in any field.

• Five (5) or more years of experience as a litigation paralegal in a law practice focusing on premises and fleet liability litigations, with expertise in civil discovery, corporate and insurance litigation, legal billing, negligence, vehicle and premises liability claims, subrogation, and court procedures.

• Paralegal Certification.

• Familiarity with Publix's policies and procedures, including but not limited to retail operations, warehouse and fleet operations, real estate, loss prevention, and accounting.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel.

• Knowledge of SAP.
