Position Overview:
Cornell University's College of Architecture, Art and Planning is in search of temporary seasonal admissions evaluators for the undergraduate admissions cycle. These evaluators will receive training from the admissions team to assess first-year applications, which includes reviewing high school transcripts, personal statements, recommendation letters, and various other application materials. The evaluation process is thorough, considering each applicant's unique background, academic readiness, and extracurricular involvement across diverse high school environments within a selective admissions framework.
This role is set to commence in October and will continue until mid-March. Seasonal evaluators are expected to commit to a maximum of 20 hours per week; this position does not offer benefits. During the early decision phase (October to December), evaluators will review approximately 30 applications weekly, increasing to around 45 applications weekly during the regular decision phase (January to mid-March). There may be opportunities to work up to 25 hours per week if desired.
Key Responsibilities:
Seasonal evaluators will:
Collaborate with an admissions staff member throughout the reading period following training. Serve as the primary reviewer for application files from prospective first-year students. Conduct independent evaluations of high school transcripts, personal statements, recommendation letters, and other application documents. Provide organized, clear, and detailed notes in line with training. Effectively manage personal schedules to prioritize the expected volume of applications. Maintain ongoing communication with the admissions staff. Be open to receiving guidance and feedback from the admissions team.This is a fully remote role; all training and work will be conducted remotely from a location of the candidate's choice within the United States.
All evaluations are performed online. Candidates must possess a recent computer (ideally less than 5 years old) with a reliable, high-speed internet connection and access to a private, secure workspace.
Generally, candidates who are parents or guardians of high school juniors or seniors, or those currently working with high school students or college admissions professionals, including guidance counselors and independent consultants, cannot be considered. Additional situational guidelines may also apply.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree. Proficient computer skills and adaptability to new technologies. Strong independent time management abilities. Keen attention to detail and sound judgment. Willingness to align with institutional priorities as per training. Ability to absorb feedback and adapt to suggested changes swiftly. Capacity to maintain high levels of discretion and confidentiality. Ability to engage in prolonged periods of reading from a computer screen and typing.Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in selective college admissions and/or employment at a highly selective university. Appreciation for the significance of higher education. Experience managing a high volume of work and a proven track record of meeting deadlines.About AAP:
