Job Title: Senior Attorney, Contracting Center of Excellence

The Con Edison Law Department, Practice Operations department is implementing a Contracting Center of Excellence (CoE) to enhance the company's contracting processes and improve the efficiency of its legal services. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Attorney to join our team and play a key role in developing the structure of the CoE.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal services, prepare contracts and other documents, and monitor the contracts-related workflow of the Center of Excellence.
  • Work closely with members of the Supply Chain Department, the Law Department's Commercial Transactions team, and other legal teams to develop standardized contracts playbooks, forms, processes, and procedures.
  • Observe legal trends and develop recommendations for contracts playbook development, improvement, and contract management best practices.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and revise certain contracts and contract-related documents and/or other Company policies.
  • Understand the Company's businesses to identify legal risks and develop solutions, including mitigation and negotiation strategies.
  • Manage the drafting, negotiation, and revision of a wide variety of contracts by CoE staff and act as an escalation point and approver.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other organizations within the Company to assess, investigate, and address assigned matters as appropriate.
Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctorate and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Expertise in drafting and negotiating a wide variety of commercial agreements.
  • Experience developing and/or working with contracts-related playbooks.
  • Experience leading initiatives and/or teams and fostering a positive environment.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and handle internal and external customers professionally.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, MS Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to learn new software applications and databases.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent analytical skills.
  • Ability to efficiently handle multiple tasks and projects with competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees at all levels.
