Canonical is seeking a skilled Ubuntu Linux Kernel Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our kernel team, you will be responsible for the build, maintenance, and distribution of the Linux kernel for Ubuntu.
Job DescriptionWe are looking for a highly motivated and experienced software engineer to join our kernel team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in software development at the hardware level and a passion for ensuring the most optimal performance on silicon platforms.
The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of device drivers, BSPs, and other aspects of hardware-level system engineering. They will also have experience with git, C programming, and operating system kernel fundamentals.
As a member of our team, you will collaborate regularly with a globally distributed team, work closely with silicon vendor partners to integrate their platform support into the Ubuntu Linux kernel, and diagnose and resolve issues in the kernel reported by partners, customers, and the community.
You will also be responsible for delivering distinct silicon-optimised variants of the Ubuntu Linux kernel to the world, improving tooling and automation for the delivery and test of Ubuntu Linux kernels, and submitting, reviewing, and applying kernel patches.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with a globally distributed team to deliver high-quality kernel software
- Work closely with silicon vendor partners to integrate their platform support into the Ubuntu Linux kernel
- Diagnose and resolve issues in the kernel reported by partners, customers, and the community
- Deliver distinct silicon-optimised variants of the Ubuntu Linux kernel to the world
- Improve tooling and automation for the delivery and test of Ubuntu Linux kernels
- Submit, review, and apply kernel patches
- Strong background in software development at the hardware level
- Passion for ensuring the most optimal performance on silicon platforms
- Solid understanding of device drivers, BSPs, and other aspects of hardware-level system engineering
- Experience with git, C programming, and operating system kernel fundamentals
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal
