Job Title: Emergency Shelter Support Advocate

At the Center for Women and Families, we are seeking a compassionate and empathetic individual to join our team as an Emergency Shelter Support Advocate. This role is responsible for providing essential daily living needs to individuals experiencing homelessness due to intimate partner violence and/or sexual assault in our 24/7 emergency shelter.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess the needs of the shelter community and ensure client, staff, and building safety
  • Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, counseling, de-escalation, transportation, advocacy, information, referrals, and supportive services to aid clients in identifying immediate needs and determining viable next steps
  • Conduct intakes, exits, agreements, and conflict resolution
  • Support shift lead, groups, walk-in clients, child enrichment, pet needs, and shelter space readiness
  • Maintain daily written, verbal, and electronic communication
  • Collaborate with program staff on clients entering emergency shelter
  • Coordinate with community partners to promote positive relationships

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field
  • Valid driver's license and a driving record that meets CWF automobile insurance requirements
  • Fluency in languages other than English is a plus
  • Developed sense of empathy
