Responsibilities:


Accountable for delivering high-quality pre-hospital advanced life support, including assessment, triage, and treatment in accordance with the standards and protocols set by Air Methods Community Based Services (CBS) Medical Director(s).

You will ensure that safety remains the utmost priority throughout the entire transport process, fulfilling the mission and objectives of Air Methods CBS.


Key Functions and Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering pre-hospital advanced life support from the initial contact until patient care is transferred to the receiving medical facility; maintaining comprehensive patient care documentation.
  • Operating within the defined scope of practice as regulated by the state and Air Methods CBS. You will maintain proficiency in knowledge and skills through ongoing training and clinical experiences, communicating educational needs to the Medical Base Supervisor and Medical Education Coordinator.
  • Keeping accurate records of required licenses, certifications, continuing education, aviation and safety training, OSHA and HIPAA training, clinical rotations, and advanced procedures. Participating in a minimum of six educational programs annually relevant to your practice.
  • Being knowledgeable in the use and routine maintenance of all equipment and supplies utilized by Air Methods CBS. Reporting any medical equipment failures and initiating repair processes as directed. Ensuring adequate supplies are onboard the aircraft to provide patient care and maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of the aircraft for rapid response to transport requests.


  • Engaging in patient and referring institution follow-up and participating in outreach marketing and educational initiatives.
  • Acting as a medical flight team member by attending pre-mission briefings and debriefings, completing necessary documentation, assisting in pre-mission checklists, and supporting the pilot as requested, including radio communication, navigation, and visual observation tasks. Adhering to safety standards to ensure the safety of yourself, medical personnel, patients, and equipment.
Conducting aircraft safety briefings as necessary.

  • Serving as a resource for neonatal/pediatric personnel during the transport of specialized patients by helicopter. Performing advanced skills and procedures as authorized by Air Methods CBS Medical Director(s).
  • Acting as a role model, educator, and clinical resource. Actively participating in departmental activities, projects, and committees, including research and publication opportunities. Staying informed about current issues related to pre-hospital care through professional engagement at national and state levels.
  • Other duties as assigned. Regular attendance is a critical function of this position.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of three years of relevant experience and/or training; or a combination of education and experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a health-related field is preferred.
  • At least three (3) years of recent experience in a busy emergency response system.
  • Previous experience in critical care transport and aerial operations is advantageous.

Operational and Safety Requirements:

  • As a member of the Clinical Flight Crew, individuals in this position must maintain a weight not exceeding 225 pounds, including the weight of the flight suit and boots.

Skills necessary to practice as a paramedic as defined by the state scope of practice and advanced practice skills as determined by Medical Director(s) and Medical Standards.

  • Possessing excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Registered EMT-P licensed in the state(s) served.
  • National Certification may be required to meet state licensure standards.

Specialty Certification:
(FP-C or CCP-C) is required within two (2) years of hire.

  • Current certifications in Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR; ACLS; PALS or equivalent (AHA courses if state or county required) and advanced provider ITLS or PHTLS (if state or country required).

Advanced Trauma Course:

One (1) of the following is acceptable: TNCC, ATLS/ATCN, TNATC, or CAMTS-approved advanced trauma course prior to completion of third-rider orientation.

(Please note that an advanced skills lab must accompany all of the aforementioned advanced trauma courses.)

  • NRP certification prior to completion of third-rider orientation.
  • NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800, and HazMat upon hire.
