SUMMARY
Unison Systems Inc. is seeking a Systems Engineer I specializing in Cisco UCS for a prominent telecommunications client. The successful candidate will play a key role in assessing on-premise server infrastructure, scheduling evaluations, and planning infrastructure QA and test automation. Responsibilities will also encompass lifecycle management of infrastructure, conducting gap analyses, and recommending enhancements to ensure that operational stability meets or exceeds service delivery expectations.
This position involves collaboration with various product owners, including teams focused on SAN storage, virtualization, microservices, and networking. The engineer will engage with cross-functional teams to devise solutions and strategies that support the company's Software Defined Data Center initiatives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain and support existing lab infrastructure through established ticketing and resource scheduling protocols.
- Evaluate new and existing server infrastructure capabilities to ensure alignment with both current applications and new product services.
- Contribute to architectural discussions with internal and external stakeholders to ensure proposed solutions fulfill business and operational requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering and operational teams to identify unmet needs and propose effective solutions.
- Work alongside peers on automation related to compute and storage certification, bare metal provisioning, and domain-specific automations.
- Establish standards for approved infrastructure deployments and integrations in collaboration with colleagues.
- Partner with leadership to refine and enhance current processes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- A minimum of five years of experience in administering, integrating, and designing data center infrastructure solutions, including server hardware, virtualization platforms, SAN switching, storage technologies, and basic networking.
- At least five years of experience in designing both physical and virtual solutions for cloud architectures using blade and rack mount server platforms.
- A minimum of two years of experience in designing and engineering Software Defined Data Center solutions for workload optimization.
- Familiarity with Cisco UCS B-Series infrastructure and UCS Manager.
- Understanding of Workflow Orchestration platforms and container technologies, including Kubernetes and Docker.
- Proficiency in BASH/Shell, Python, Ansible, or similar scripting languages.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with employees, customers, and suppliers.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects and communicate project requirements clearly.
- Capability to meet deliverable objectives with minimal supervision.
- Understanding of telecommunications or related service provider technologies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of infrastructure logging and monitoring solutions for alerting and reporting.
- Experience with automated builds of new data center infrastructure deployments using Workflow Automation platforms.
- Familiarity with networking fundamentals.
- Experience with Object Storage solutions.
- Relevant certifications such as Cisco CCNA Data Center, Linux Foundation Certified Engineer, Linux Foundation Kubernetes Administrator, VMware VCP, and NetApp Certified Data Administrator.
