Job Overview:

The Cancer Registrar is responsible for abstracting and collecting cancer data from medical records for submission to the New Jersey State Cancer Registry. This role requires strong analytical and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Abstract cancer data from medical records, including diagnosis, treatment, and patient outcomes
  • Ensure accurate and complete data collection, adhering to regulatory guidelines and standards
  • Assist with case-finding activities, including reading pathology reports and medical records
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including Excel spreadsheets and treatment letters
  • Perform follow-up on analytic cases and maintain patient confidentiality
Requirements:
  • Certification as an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) or working towards certification
  • Minimum of two years experience in a related healthcare field, preferably in cancer registry or oncology
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
