About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Chief Software Architect to join our team at Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI). As a key member of our engineering services and solutions company, you will play a critical role in providing technical expertise to our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform the duties of chief architect/chief engineer for government customers as assigned.
  • Develop a long-term architectural roadmap and identify capability delivery milestones, key integration dependencies, and delivery points.
  • Define and document overall solution architecture and lifecycle roadmaps.
  • Analyze business requirements and develop technical network solutions.
  • Document how applications and technology solutions support business needs.
  • Develop and document, maintain, and communicate current and future architecture design recommendations for the Space C2 and Delta-wide portfolios.
  • Assess the current architecture to identify technical debt for implementation and advise the Government on priorities.
  • Identify integration points for existing and new capabilities in the architecture roadmap and recommend prioritization to the Government as informed by requirements documentation and external integration analysis.
  • Prototype Architecture as Code and apply associated practices for linking development backlogs.
  • Evaluate technology trends against mission suitability and system development feasibility for future engineering trade studies.
  • Develop presentations to summarize capability and technology recommendations for recurring government-hosted conferences.
  • Work on high-visibility or mission-critical aspects of a given program and perform all functional duties independently.
  • Work in consortium-style settings with multiple contractor and government participants.
  • Be responsible for the efforts of assigned staff, provide guidance and direction to team members, and foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with Information Systems Security Officers/Managers (ISSO/ISSM)s to ensure that architectural decisions align with security standards and regulations, particularly in a SAP environment.
  • Provide expert-level Architect support for virtual and physical networks, computers, servers, and appliances.
  • Oversee and maintain a configuration management system to manage all technical data artifacts and ensure their integrity and traceability to requirements.
  • Generate governance policies and procedures to guide software development and program activities.
  • Demonstrate strong communications and collaboration skills and familiarity working in remote/distributed team environments.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant DoD software architect work experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of working in Special Access Programs (SAP) within the last 5 years.
  • Chief Engineer level engineering skills as well as knowledge and experience establishing, building, fielding, and sustaining secure, trusted, core processing and communications architectures to include definition and development of open systems architecture standards.
  • Experience in the development and coordination of comprehensive Space system interoperability requirements both internal to the system and externally to BMC2 elements.
  • Must be highly skilled in information technology and equipped with significant problem-solving and leadership abilities.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps implementation and execution.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines executing in parallel.
  • Fluency in multiple programming languages is strongly desired.
  • Deep knowledge of software-related topics such as database design, content management systems, and enterprise service bus architecture.
  • Demonstrated experience with Mattermost, Jira, Jira Align, Confluence, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated broad experience in software development for complex military systems, incorporating systems of systems integration and adaptation of novel approaches to existing military systems.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with the Kobayashi Maru Platform diagrams.
  • Familiarity with the Sparx tools.
  • Experience with generating governance policies and procedures to guide software development and program activities.
Education/Certification Requirements
  • B.S. degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or related field.
  • M.S. degree in related STEM field.
Security Clearance Level Required
  • Top Secret, SCI eligible (Must be a U.S. Citizen).
  • SAP eligibility. (Counterintelligence Polygraph may be required).
Location/Travel Requirements
  • Place of work is El Segundo, CA area, remote work opportunity is limited.
  • May require travel up to 20% of time within the continental United States.
