POSITION: SPEECH LANGUAGE FACILITATOR

ROLE SUMMARY

Under general oversight, this position involves a variety of technical and administrative tasks aimed at assisting educators in supporting students with communication challenges.

The individual will engage in numerous activities to bolster the teacher's efforts, address the diverse needs of students, and ensure high-quality educational experiences for all.

Responsibilities include providing tailored academic support, facilitating functional skills development, and leading small group sessions. The role also encompasses assisting with classroom organization and administrative tasks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Collaborate with educators to implement instructional strategies and assess their effectiveness.


- Interact with students in a manner that reflects an understanding of their unique needs and abilities.

- Uphold confidentiality regarding all student information.


- Continuously monitor the safety and welfare of students; promote positive self-esteem and independence.


- Supervise student behavior and help maintain classroom discipline; apply crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques as necessary.


- Assist students in their learning journey; clarify instructions, conduct focused skill sessions, adapt materials to suit individual abilities, and provide personalized support.

Utilize various assistive technologies and communication devices to aid students in their academic tasks as required.


- Execute all personal care routines for students as outlined in their Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Health Plans, including hygiene, feeding, and medication administration.

Support students with daily living skills (e.g., toileting, feeding).

- Maintain accurate records and documentation regarding student progress.

- Perform general classroom upkeep; manage repair and maintenance tasks related to educational equipment.


- Carry out clerical duties as needed, including tracking student progress, developing incident reports, grading assignments, managing attendance, and preparing instructional materials.

Engage in professional development as directed.


- Additional responsibilities may include substituting as a bus driver when required.



QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Possess a two-year degree.
  • Have completed a minimum of 48 semester hours of college coursework.
  • Achieve a bronze level score on WorkKeys assessments in reading, writing, and math.


Individuals hired after a specified date must obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements or be willing to pursue this credential at the next available opportunity.

If a candidate does not pursue or is ineligible for the CDL with endorsements, it may lead to dismissal recommendations.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


- Proficient use of various classroom tools and equipment, including computers and assistive devices for special needs.

- Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally; and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.


- Capable of applying rational systems to solve practical issues and navigate various concrete variables in situations with limited standardization; interpret diverse instructions provided in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.

Must effectively communicate and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow both oral and written instructions in Standard English.

- Ability to engage with individuals beyond simple instruction-giving and receiving. Must be adaptable to high-stress situations and interactions with individuals under stress.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

- General understanding of the activities performed by educators.

- Familiarity with daily classroom routines.

- Knowledge of emergency procedures.

- Understanding of methods for adapting instruction and tools for students with special needs.

- Basic knowledge of curriculum standards for the relevant grade level.

- Ability to monitor student safety and well-being, especially during inclusive activities.

- Skills to motivate students and maintain a clean, organized environment.

- Competence in performing general clerical tasks and maintaining classroom discipline.

- Proficiency in operating standard office equipment and maintaining basic records.

- Ability to establish and sustain effective working relationships as required by job duties.
