Position Purpose:
The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner operates autonomously and in partnership with physicians to provide comprehensive health care to children. This role involves assessing, interpreting, and synthesizing clinical findings to formulate suitable diagnostic, educational, and therapeutic management strategies for patients. The practitioner employs leadership and professional development competencies to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for delivering medical services aligned with their education, training, and expertise, which includes:
- Conducting patient consultations in accordance with established practice standards.
- Gathering patient medical histories and executing physical assessments.
- Requesting and analyzing relevant laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Creating and executing treatment plans based on clinical practice guidelines and protocols.
- Evaluating the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions and managing patient follow-up care.
- Collaborates with physicians, seeking their input on treatment-related inquiries and issues as necessary.
- Ensures the confidentiality of patient information is maintained.
- Records all patient interactions in the medical record, whether conducted in person or via telephone.
- Reviews and authorizes all laboratory and diagnostic tests ordered.
- Communicates with patients via phone, addressing inquiries, discussing medication refills, scheduling follow-up appointments, and conveying lab results.
- Educates and promotes health maintenance practices to patients and their families.
- Serves as a role model and, in select situations, mentors clinical staff and other advanced practice health care professionals.
- Engages in activities that enhance the education of patients, families, and other health care professionals, including delivering educational presentations.
- Adheres to the clinic's Corporate Compliance Plan and all relevant federal, state, local, and regulatory guidelines.
- Demonstrates knowledge of Evaluation & Management (E&M) coding guidelines and applies them accurately.
- Understands managed care and health plan requirements regarding prescription formularies, precertification for tests, participating facilities, and medical necessity criteria, utilizing appropriate resources to coordinate patient treatment plans.
- Takes responsibility for time management, professional relationships, and interpersonal interactions within the workplace.
- Maintains and enhances knowledge and skills related to pediatric health care and service delivery in a private practice environment. Meets continuing education requirements for licensure and certifications and maintains membership in relevant professional organizations.
- Performs additional duties as required.
Must possess an active South Carolina Nurse Practitioner license and BLS/PALS certification.
