Overview:
The Communication and Marketing Specialist will collaborate closely with the Dean to craft and execute communication strategies, promotional initiatives, and events for the College of Performing Arts (CoPA). This role involves working in partnership with faculty, staff, and colleagues in Strategic Marketing and Communications (SMC) to achieve CoPA's marketing, communication, public relations, and event objectives. The specialist will be responsible for identifying target audiences, drafting messaging for the Dean and faculty, and implementing tactics to effectively convey these messages. Key responsibilities include managing written content, overseeing print and digital communications, and ensuring consistency and quality across all platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
Marketing and Communication Activities:
- Collaborate with the Dean to formulate and execute communication strategies that enhance recruitment efforts by showcasing the unique and high-quality student experience in CoPA. Develop, implement, and monitor an annual marketing campaign for CoPA.
- Work with SMC to design, proofread, and produce marketing materials for institutional publicity and branding projects, ensuring adherence to established branding guidelines.
- Advise the Dean on effective communication practices across various mediums and recommend innovative strategies to enhance recruitment visibility.
- Maintain and update the CoPA website and social media platforms, ensuring a balanced representation of print and digital content.
- Manage a master calendar to track communication schedules and the production of marketing materials.
- Coordinate with Legal Affairs for engaging independent contractors as needed.
- Oversee the design and production of content for social media, websites, newsletters, and promotional materials.
- Ensure the strategic creation of publicity materials for CoPA events, coordinating with student graphic designers as necessary.
- Collaborate with the Dean and department chairs to manage project budgets effectively.
- Review and develop written content for various platforms, including social media and print media.
- Identify advertising opportunities for CoPA and analyze the effectiveness of marketing efforts.
- Utilize surveys and market research tools to gather relevant information as assigned.
- Stay updated on new social media and web tools, researching market instruments.
- Work with SMC to coordinate publicity and marketing for institutional events involving CoPA.
- Promote events through various channels, including social media and print media.
- Maintain a photo archive for CoPA and coordinate photographic coverage for events.
- Provide guidance to staff in communication and publicity efforts.
- Support the Dean in managing communications directed at internal and external audiences.
- Demonstrated experience in creating and producing marketing materials, preferably in a performing arts context.
- Experience in utilizing social and print media for organizational promotion.
- Three to five years of professional experience in public relations or a related field.
- Bachelor's degree in PR, Communications, English, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong communication skills for managing university coverage and publicity.
- Excellent writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to learn necessary enterprise systems and design tools.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate diplomacy.
- Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to customer service.
- Familiarity with performing arts venues.
- Experience in content management for social media and web design.
- Project management and time management experience.
