Special Education Teacher

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team at the Alabama Department of Education. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a critical role in providing educational support to students with special needs, helping them to achieve their full potential and succeed in their academic pursuits.
Key Responsibilities- Teaching and Instruction: Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs, using a variety of teaching methods and materials to promote learning and engagement.
- Assessment and Evaluation: Administer and interpret standardized tests and assessments to identify students' strengths and weaknesses, and to inform instruction and intervention.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with general education teachers, related service providers, and other support staff to ensure that students receive comprehensive and coordinated support.
- Parent and Community Engagement: Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to keep them informed about their child's progress and to involve them in the educational process.
- Professional Development: Stay up-to-date with best practices in special education, and participate in ongoing professional development to enhance your skills and knowledge.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Experience: At least 2 years of experience working with students with special needs.
- Certifications: Alabama Class B Certificate with appropriate endorsement.
- Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work with diverse populations, and knowledge of special education laws and regulations.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift and move up to 35 pounds, and to stand for long periods of time.
- Work Environment: Typically works in a school setting, with occasional travel to meetings and professional development events.
