Position Overview:
The BMS Innovation Law Team is on the lookout for an experienced intellectual property attorney to bolster our cell therapy research and development initiatives. This Senior Corporate Counsel role will provide legal support across various departments, focusing on the development and protection of BMS' intellectual property, particularly in relation to cell and gene therapies, as well as biologic treatments for oncological, hematological, and immunological conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering strategic legal guidance on all aspects of intellectual property law, including but not limited to acquisition, enforcement, freedom to operate, and business development.
  • Providing legal counsel to the Research & Early Development division.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams in a dynamic and growth-oriented setting.
  • Working alongside both internal and external legal professionals to achieve BMS objectives.

Qualifications:

  • J.D. degree or equivalent and admission to practice in at least one State.
  • A minimum of 12 years of patent law experience in the biopharmaceutical sector, with at least six years in an in-house role at a leading biopharmaceutical firm, demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Registered to practice before the USPTO and eligible to practice in the relevant jurisdiction or able to obtain a limited in-house counsel license.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in biological sciences or a related field; an advanced degree and/or research experience is preferred.
  • Exceptional analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • A service-oriented mindset with the ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams and drive outcomes.
  • Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, and the capability to proactively identify and assess business risks while communicating legal matters to management across various functions.

Compensation:
The starting salary for this position is competitive, reflecting the complexity of the role and the skills required. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities may be available based on eligibility.
