POSITION OVERVIEW: The Nutritional Services Assistant plays a vital role in supporting all food-related activities as directed and in accordance with established culinary policies and procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the preparation and serving of meals according to planned menus, utilizing standardized recipes and accommodating special dietary requests. Prepare and serve evening snacks for residents, as well as alternative food options for those who decline the offered meals. Ensure that all food is prepared in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment by ensuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are available. The Nutritional Services Assistant must adhere to the facility's Infection Control Precautions while performing daily tasks.
- Carry out dishwashing and cleaning duties to ensure that utensils and kitchenware are ready for subsequent meals.
- Prepare and deliver snacks as instructed, and transport food carts and trays to designated locations. Serve meals and beverages in the dining area as directed, and perform cleaning tasks such as sweeping and mopping floors in the kitchen and dishroom as per supervisor instructions.
REQUIREMENTS: To excel in this role, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty effectively. The following qualifications are necessary:
- Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
- Commitment to maintaining the care and proper use of supplies and equipment, as well as the cleanliness of work areas, while conducting regular inspections of food service areas for sanitation and safety.
- Possess patience, tact, a cheerful demeanor, and enthusiasm, along with the willingness to engage with residents at their respective maturity levels.
- Ability to explore new methods and principles and integrate them into existing food service practices.
- Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands outlined below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.
- Ability to move throughout the workday.
- Must possess functional sight and hearing, or utilize prosthetics that enable these senses to function adequately for the role.
- Capability to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of at least 5 feet and carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
- May be required to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
