About the Role: This role is essential in providing quality healthcare services within Military Treatment Facilities under DHA.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and document patient vital signs.
  • Administer prescribed medications through various routes including oral, topical, and injections.
  • Compile written and verbal reports on patient care for medical records.
  • Prepare patients for diagnostic tests, examinations, treatments, or minor surgical procedures.
  • Execute procedures within the scope of practice, including wound care, dressing changes, and suture removal.

  • A Personnel Security Investigation is mandatory.

  • Immunization screening is essential, particularly for Hepatitis B for positions with direct patient contact.
  • Must obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through an accredited organization.

Qualifications

Who Can Apply: U.S. Citizens

To qualify, candidates must meet the following licensure and experience criteria. Experience encompasses both paid and volunteer work, including roles in National Service programs.

Licensure Requirement for Practical Nurse:

Licensure: A valid license to practice as a practical or vocational nurse in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia; OR evidence of application for licensure. Candidates with a license must provide documentation to verify their licensure status. Non-licensed candidates who have completed training may be appointed contingent upon obtaining the required license during the probationary period.

Experience Requirement: One year of nursing experience in a healthcare setting such as a hospital, outpatient clinic, or nursing home, demonstrating practical knowledge of human anatomy and sterile techniques. This experience typically aligns with duties performed at the GS-04 level in federal service.
