Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused Visitor Services Assistant to join our team at the U.S. Department of the Interior. As a Visitor Services Assistant, you will provide exceptional customer service to visitors, respond to inquiries, and assist with various park programs and events.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide information and assistance to visitors, including answering questions and resolving issues
  • Operate and maintain the Visitor Center, including a museum, bookstore, and theater
  • Support park personnel with special programs and events, including planning, setup, and implementation
  • Monitor trail conditions and report any obstructions or safety hazards
  • Collect and compile data, including visitation statistics and visitor feedback
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
  • Complete the initial online assessment and USAHire Assessment, if required
  • Participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program
  • Operate a government motor vehicle and possess a valid driver's license
  • Wear a uniform and comply with National Park Service uniform standards
  • Work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work
  • May be required to travel overnight
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications:

  • At least one year of general experience equivalent to the GS-03 grade level, including greeting the public, disseminating information, and providing directions
  • Successful completion of at least two years of education above high school (60 semester hours)
  • A combination of education and experience, including transcripts

Please note that credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience, and you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution.
