Job Summary

Midstate Radiology Associates is seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team at our Whitney Imaging location in Hamden. As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will play a critical role in assisting physicians in diagnosis and treatment by performing diagnostic medical sonograms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform Diagnostic Medical Sonograms: Schedule patients and operate equipment to produce accurate images to assist radiologists in diagnosis and treatment.
  • Assess Physician's Orders: Review requisitions and patient charts to ensure correct examinations are performed the first time.
  • Establish Testing Schedule: Prioritize requests for procedures to ensure critically ill patients are treated and appropriate physician and staff levels are available.
  • Perform Quality Assurance Tests: Document quarterly quality assurance tests on equipment to maintain integrity of the system.
  • Participate in Invasive Radiological Procedures: Assist radiologists in performing procedures and producing images to provide therapeutic and diagnostic services.
  • Maintain Ultrasound Equipment: Clean and disinfect equipment and area after each use, and report any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdowns to supervisor.
  • Demonstrate Competencies: Show yearly competencies, including knowledge and behaviors, to conduct examinations and meet the needs of patients with regard to their age, condition, or other special requirements.
  • Prepare Examinations for Interpretation: Set up images in PACS system and accurately input data in RIS to capture all charges and other relevant information for patient billing and department resource allocation.
  • Communicate Effectively: Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, medical staff, and co-workers, and maintain the confidentiality of patient records.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent, and registered or registry eligible with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
  • Experience: At least one year's experience as an ultrasound technologist, and CPR certification may be required.
  • Knowledge: Working knowledge applicable to ultrasound technology, patient care standards and requirements, quality assurance principles and practices, customer service principles and practices, OSHA principles and practices, and TJC standards of practice.
  • Skills: Operate ultrasound equipment, schedule, organize, and monitor patient flow to meet company productivity, quality, health, and safety standards, communicate effectively with patients, relatives, medical staff, and co-workers, and maintain the confidentiality of patient records.
