Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse to join our team at SSM Health. As a Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse, you will provide direct nursing care to patients in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols of the healthcare organization.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize standards of medical-surgical nursing practice to enhance the quality of care and quality of life for patients, families, and significant others.
  • Establish effective relationships and serve as an advocate with patients, families, and significant others to facilitate the development of a care plan unique to each patient's needs.
  • Develop and implement a plan of care, collect assessment data, determine appropriate nursing diagnoses, identify expected patient outcomes, and evaluate patient outcomes.
  • Develop assessment and management strategies based on a consideration of the physical, functional, cultural, social, economic, developmental, spiritual, vocational, and leisure dimensions of human responses to actual and potential health problems.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the impact of actual or potential illness and each patient's physical, functional, cultural, social, economic, developmental, spiritual, vocational, and leisure status.
  • Utilize leadership skills by coordinating and collaborating with patients, families, significant others, communities, and members of the interprofessional team in assessing needs, setting goals, planning interventions, providing care, and evaluating outcomes.
  • Utilize effective communication to participate with patients, families, significant others, and other healthcare providers in collaborative decision making that reflects the understanding that care should be culturally sensitive, ethical, legal, holistic, informed, compassionate, and humane, and within the boundaries of available economic resources.
  • Educate patients, families, and significant others about measures that promote, maintain, and restore health or promote comfort.
  • Foster a healthy work environment within the practice setting and profession by serving as a mentor and role model for nursing colleagues, students, and others.
  • Apply the existing body of evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in healthcare to medical-surgical nursing practice, ensuring that nursing care is delivered based on patient's age-specific needs and clinical needs as described in the department's Scope of Service.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • May perform point of care testing according to policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
