We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Scientist Trainee to join our team at Associated Regional and University Pathologists (ARUP). As a Laboratory Scientist Trainee, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality laboratory services to our clients.
Key Responsibilities- Perform waived and automated analytic processes, including qualitative, semi-qualitative, and quantitative tests performed automatically by an instrument.
- Oversee calibration on self-calibrating instruments and perform select calibration processes.
- Perform selected moderate and high complexity analytic processes, both automated and non-automated.
- Operate selected laboratory instruments and ensure proper functioning of laboratory equipment, performing minor troubleshooting and routine maintenance under the direction of a Technologist and/or Technical Supervisor.
- Maintain records and documentation, including quality control and equipment maintenance within predetermined parameters.
- Accurately log in and process specimens according to established departmental procedures.
- Follow appropriate specimen collection, handling, and transport procedures, resolving sample handling problems or referring them to designated Technologists and/or Technical Supervisors.
- Process data and transcribe data in the laboratory computer system, with all results validated by qualified personnel (Technologist, Certified Technologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist).
- Train on new procedures to a prescribed level of competency.
- Meet output measures as defined by individual group procedures, assisting others in areas of defined competency when assigned workload is complete.
- Refer requests for special and unusual tests to the Technical Supervisor and/or Group Manager.
- Assist in data collection for QA indicators as defined.
- Assist in the performance of validation of equipment and test methods as defined.
- Assist in the creation and review of standard operating procedures (SOPs) as defined.
- Perform internal and external proficiency testing as defined.
- Appropriately stock and maintain reagents and supplies.
- Assist in the training of Technicians as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree or better in Biological Sciences or related field.
- After hire, must work for one year under the direction of a laboratory technologist.
- One or more years of clinical laboratory diagnostic testing experience appropriate to the section (preferred).
