Job Overview:


This role entails executing functional analysis and testing tasks or programming and debugging activities related to intricate information technology (IT) systems.

This position will bolster SDMI's Information Technology and GIS initiatives. Responsibilities include enhancing SDMI's storm surge, flooding, and consequence modeling.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide program support for all ongoing and upcoming GIS projects overseen by SDMI. Assist in the conceptualization and design of interactive map-based web applications. Develop mapping applications utilizing the ArcGIS JavaScript API. Establish and manage a sharing platform and resource center for ArcGIS content. (30%)


2. Evaluate new software and hardware technologies; design processes and offer technical guidance for technology integration into client networks.

Provide assistance in the utilization of new hardware or software to clients and/or staff. (25%)

3. Aid in incorporating all geographic requirements into current and future projects. Act as a GIS support element to enhance existing GIS capabilities within the Stephenson Disaster Management Institute. Collaborate with team members to expand SDMI's GIS capabilities. (20%)


4. Collect and verify field data for use in mapping applications, 911 systems, and other stakeholders interested in accurate location of address points and other features.

Gather, process, and rectify data from the field. Analyze and integrate spatial data, determining optimal methods for information display using GIS. (20%)

5. Perform other duties as assigned. (5%)

Minimum Qualifications:


Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of experience in GIS or information technology. Proficiency with Adobe Flex and/or Microsoft Silverlight, Python, ArcGIS, AGO, and ESRI Story Maps is required.

Familiarity with STEP, WEBCASS, NetDMR, and Microsoft SharePoint is essential.

Physical Requirements:


Ability to use a computer terminal, copier, telephone, and other standard office equipment; capacity to remain seated for extended periods (5.5+ hours a day) while engaging in continuous hand motions for data entry.
