Lone Star College is seeking a highly qualified Adjunct Faculty member to teach Microbiology courses at various times and locations. The ideal candidate will have a master's degree or higher in theoretical or applied biology or life sciences, with a strong commitment to academic excellence and exceptional service.
The successful candidate will be responsible for creating engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material, submitting required college reports and forms in a timely manner, and utilizing a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines.
The Adjunct Faculty member will also be expected to meet with and advise students, evaluate student progress, and maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
This is a part-time position, with a maximum of five classes per academic year. The work schedule will vary depending on class time, and instructors are required to meet with classes at all scheduled times and be available to students outside of class instruction.
The successful candidate will be a team player who is committed to creating a dynamic climate for life-long learning and is passionate about teaching and mentoring students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach Microbiology courses at a variety of times and locations
- Create engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material
- Submit required college reports and forms in a timely manner
- Utilize a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines
- Meet with and advise students, either before or after class, or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods
- Evaluate student progress and inform students in a timely manner of their progress
- Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community
Requirements:
- Mastery of course content
- Demonstrated leadership skills, with a style that emphasizes collaboration, teamwork, and facilitation
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints and work effectively with a wide variety of people
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement instructional approaches, such as service learning/civic engagement, learning communities, and the effective use of technology
- Ability to use effective strategies to engage students in their learning
