Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Outdoor Recreation Specialist to join our team at the City of Chattanooga. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, instructing, and facilitating daily outdoor and adventure recreation activities for diverse populations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, coordinate, and facilitate a wide variety of recreational events, classes, and activities.
  • Supervise patrons, recruit volunteers, reserve facilities and transportation, procure supplies, schedule events, and develop promotional materials.
  • Perform routine day-to-day operations, including inventory maintenance and monitoring sites and facilities for potential safety hazards.
  • Respond to requests for information or complaints regarding recreation programs, processes, procedures, events, and activities.
  • Serve as a liaison with program participants and sponsors.
  • Perform routine clerical work, register participants for programs, and maintain related records and information.
  • Participate in meetings, committees, and other related groups to receive and convey information.
Requirements
  • Class D driver's license.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification required and must be current.
  • Preference given to Wilderness First Aid certification or greater.
  • Required to carry a personal mobile phone with current carrier service.
  • Regional knowledge of local outdoor resources is preferred.
  • Flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Documented experience in guiding and programming of skill-based adventure recreation, or two years of direct work experience in outdoor recreation.
Working Conditions

Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, extreme temperatures, and intense noises.
