ROLE SUMMARY:
The College Affordability Advisors at uAspire play a crucial role in assisting young individuals as they explore and finance their educational journeys. These advisors undergo comprehensive training in college affordability strategies to effectively guide students. They may be assigned to various educational institutions to provide in-person or virtual support to high school seniors or to a group of college students through an innovative messaging platform. Regardless of the student group, advisors focus on essential tasks related to college affordability, including financial aid application assistance, scholarship exploration, and financial aid award letter interpretation.
This role is ideal for a proactive individual who is passionate about empowering youth, committed to ongoing learning in the college access and success arena, and enjoys utilizing data and technology to enhance student outcomes. The ideal candidate will be motivated by the opportunity to positively influence the lives of young people, eager to apply their knowledge in practical settings, and ready to embrace new challenges. This is an entry-level position with an emphasis on training during the initial year.
We are looking for candidates willing to commit to this position for one year, recognizing the extensive training involved and the importance of consistency for our students and their families.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advising on College Affordability:
- Deliver personalized advising through in-person meetings, text messaging, and virtual platforms based on uAspire's college affordability curriculum to high school and postsecondary students.
- Support students in the timely completion of various financial aid applications.
- Leverage messaging platform capabilities to build strong advising relationships with students.
- Collaborate with staff from partner educational institutions and community organizations to share relevant information and strategize on student progress.
- Advocate for students, guiding them to engage with necessary resources and individuals to meet their unique needs.
- Develop innovative strategies to enhance student engagement through program messaging.
- Identify and utilize additional technological and communication tools to connect with students.
- Organize financial aid workshops for students and families in partnership with schools and community organizations, including participation in evening events.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain comprehensive records in uAspire's database to monitor student data and progress towards program objectives.
- Regularly assess personal performance metrics to ensure progress towards goals, utilizing relevant data reports for outreach.
- Conduct survey collection and manage other administrative tasks as needed.
Program Support:
- Contribute to research and resource development to enhance staff training and improve service delivery to students.
- Facilitate presentations and events related to college affordability in collaboration with regional partners, including evening events.
- Foster positive and collaborative relationships within the team.
- Assist program leadership with special projects as assigned.

- Understanding of the challenges faced by low-income, first-generation college-bound students, particularly those from underrepresented communities.
- Experience in fostering inclusive and equitable work environments.
- Some college experience is necessary; degree completion is not mandatory.
- Knowledge of the local educational landscape is preferred.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Excellent organizational abilities and capacity to manage tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Energetic and eager to learn within a growing organization.
- Flexibility to work evenings and occasional weekends for school-related events.
- Proficiency in essential software, including Google Mail/Docs and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Bilingual skills are advantageous.
