CNC Machine Operator Summary

  • Manufactures components by programming and operating CNC machinery, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards, maintaining accurate records, and overseeing equipment and supplies.

Key Responsibilities of a CNC Machine Operator:

  • Plans machining processes by analyzing work orders, blueprints, engineering specifications, materials, and machining parameters; interprets geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Programs milling and turning machines by inputting instructions, establishing zero and reference points, setting tool registers, offsets, and conditional switches; calculates requirements using basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; validates part programs.
  • Prepares machines for operation by installing and adjusting chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; aligns vices and trams heads.
  • Loads materials into machines, which may involve sourcing and cutting raw stock from inventory; forklift operation is necessary.
  • Confirms settings by measuring positions, inspecting first-run parts, and evaluating sample work pieces; complies with international standards.
  • Cleans, deburrs, and labels finished components.
  • Ensures specifications are met by monitoring drilling, grooving, and cutting operations, including turning, facing, knurling, and threading; takes measurements, identifies malfunctions, troubleshoots processes, adjusts controls, sharpens, and replaces worn tools; follows quality assurance protocols.
  • Maintains a safe working environment by adhering to safety regulations and procedures.
  • Conducts preventive maintenance on equipment by following manufacturer guidelines, troubleshooting issues, and coordinating repairs.
  • Documents and communicates any corrective actions, irregularities, or ongoing needs.
  • Enhances job knowledge by engaging in educational opportunities and reviewing technical literature.
  • Contributes to organizational objectives by taking ownership of new and diverse tasks; seeks opportunities to add value to job performance; participates in 6S and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to assist in various areas of the operations team as directed by the Manufacturing Lead.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • CNC Certification
  • Experience in CNC Programming is advantageous
  • Familiarity with conversational mills or other manufacturing equipment is a plus
  • Strong background in manufacturing
