About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced PACU nurse to join our team at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health. As a PACU nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients recovering from anesthesia. You will work closely with the anesthesia team and other members of the PACU team to ensure each patient's readiness for discharge from the unit.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide post-anesthesia care to patients in all age ranges and levels of acuity, including ambulatory, inpatient, and critical care.
  • Assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate post-anesthesia care for patients.
  • Monitor patients for oxygenation, respiratory status, circulation/hemodynamic stability, level of consciousness, and temperature.
  • Manage and evaluate post-anesthesia and postoperative complications, including pain and nausea.
  • Hold autonomy to determine readiness for discharge from PACU based on PACU scoring criteria.

Requirements:

  • Current and valid Washington State Registered Nurse License.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • ACLS certification within 60 days of hire.
  • PALS certification within 60 days of hire.
  • May be willing to train those with at least 2 years of recent Progressive Care/Intermediate Care/Step-Down Unit experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • National certification in area of specialty, including CCRN, CPAN, or CAPA.
  • 1-2 years of recent inpatient PACU experience within the last 3 years.
  • Prefer experience with all phases of post-anesthesia care, including Preop, Phase 1, and Phase 2.
  • Prefer previous experience in the Charge and Preceptor roles.
  • Previous experience with starting IV's preferable for the early shifts.
  • Experience with managing airways and airway emergencies.
