Pharmacy Technician

The Pharmacy Technician reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Key Responsibilities- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
- Identifies and fills medications, surgical kits, medication carts, emergency crash carts, requisitions, and specialty items with precision and accuracy.
- Prepares sterile compounds and IV admixtures for injection and infusion, including hazardous medications, chemotherapy, and biologics, in accordance with established protocols.
- Fills and labels individual patient medications according to a computer-generated medication profile, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
- Packages medications into a unit-of-use form, labeling all medications and supplies with the required information, and maintains a log of each preparation.
- Delivers medications to nursing units to automated dispensing cabinets and retrieves discontinued medications, promoting efficient medication management.
- Maintains appropriate inventory of automated dispensing cabinets, rotates all floor stock and inventory to reduce outdated medications, and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing pharmaceuticals and supplies in designated locations, adhering to established procedures.
- Replaces returned medications to appropriate locations, rotating the inventory and checking for expired medications, ensuring a safe and effective medication management system.
- Controls and checks medications outside of the department by performing unit inspections and emergency cart checks, maintaining a high level of quality and safety.
- Appropriately handles controlled substances, including maintaining security, reconciling controlled substance dispenses, and accounting for transactions of expired, waste, and return.
- Enters patient charges and credit information into the computer, ensuring accurate and timely billing.
- Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation, adhering to established policies and procedures.
Looking for candidates with previous sterile compounding experience, with hazardous sterile compounding experience being a significant advantage.
This is a full-time position, 80 hours per pay period, day shift, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Shift time is subject to adjustments based on the needs of the operation.
