Job Overview

The Environmental Services Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff. This position involves direct interaction with various stakeholders and requires adherence to established hygiene and infection control protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain Cleanliness Across Assigned Areas:

  • Execute thorough cleaning and disinfection of designated patient care zones promptly.
  • Follow organizational safety and infection control policies while fostering a culture of safety.
  • Deliver clean linens to specified locations and monitor inventory levels for necessary supplies.
  • Manage waste disposal effectively, ensuring proper handling methods are utilized.
  • Uphold departmental standards consistently and contribute to readiness for inspections.

Efficient Use of Chemicals and Supplies:

  • Employ chemical dispensing systems according to manufacturer guidelines and maintain efficacy logs as required.
  • Restock supplies in storage areas and carts at the conclusion of each shift.
  • Request supplies from the Materials Management department following established procedures.

Operation of Equipment:

  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to Maintenance Services using the designated reporting system.
  • Regularly empty vacuum bags as necessary.
  • Utilize equipment safely and in an organized manner.

Additional Duties:

  • Engage in special projects as assigned, focusing on cleaning schedules once routine tasks are completed.
  • Report fire and safety issues, ensuring compliance with safety practices.
  • Respond to emergency spills promptly when requested.
  • Ensure that cleaning closets are secured and that cleaning carts are not left unattended in corridors.
Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience:

  • No prior experience necessary.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to comprehend instructions and adapt to new work methods.
  • Strong communication and listening skills.
  • Capacity to maintain confidentiality when required.
  • Ability to foster positive relationships with all levels of staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Attention to detail is essential.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, responding quickly to the needs of staff and patients.
  • Demonstrated capability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Extended periods of standing, bending, and reaching.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
