The New York State Psychiatric Institute is in search of a dedicated individual to join our team as a full-time Laboratory Research Associate within the Developmental Neuroscience laboratory. This lab is engaged in pioneering research utilizing in vivo techniques in murine models to explore the molecular, cellular, and circuit mechanisms underlying behaviors associated with both normative functions and psychiatric conditions. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in supporting various research initiatives aimed at elucidating the neurobiological foundations of cognitive processes and motivational states. Candidates should demonstrate exceptional organizational, communication, and documentation abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a diverse colony of four distinct transgenic mouse lines.
  • Procure and maintain laboratory supplies, reagents, and oversee financial tracking.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and animal welfare training within the laboratory.
  • Assist with histological techniques, immunohistochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, behavioral assessments, and surgical interventions.

Essential Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution along with a minimum of one year of relevant research experience.
  • At least four years of proficiency with standard computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working with murine models.
  • While training will be provided for specific software used in mouse colony management and laboratory inventory systems, familiarity with similar tools is advantageous.

Work Environment: The position is based at the New York State Psychiatric Institute.
