Job Summary

The Success Coach provides academic coaching and mentorship to students enrolled in courses offered at the Recovery Education Institute (REI). This role models self-efficacy, self-advocacy, and paraprofessionalism, providing strength-based peer-to-peer support and/or self-help services to students. The Success Coach encourages students to work with the REI Academic Advisors to set and achieve their educational and vocational goals.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Utilize lived experience to provide coaching to train and support students to acquire and achieve life skills, employment readiness, and recovery-centered skills.
  • Develop and facilitate wellness, employment readiness, and recovery-centered workshops and trainings.
  • Collaborate with the REI team to develop policies and procedures concerning lived experience, wellness, and recovery.
  • Deliver student evaluation surveys, gather evaluation data, and measure outcomes.
  • Develop and implement effective strategies to engage students in higher learning and participate in REI's educational and pre-vocational courses.
  • Collaborate with REI academic advisors and faculty members to encourage students to act as self-advocates for researching and accessing educational opportunities within their communities.
  • Conduct student recruitment, registration, and retention efforts.
  • Conduct class/workshop orientations for new and continuing students.
  • Encourage and support each student's individual strengths, interests, skills, and talents using a recovery-focused and strength-based approach.
  • Link students to community resources, peer-focused, and peer-run supportive services/programs.
  • Coach and assist students to effectively communicate and address their questions and/or concerns with REI's leadership, academic advisors, faculty instructors, and faculty adjunct members as needed.
  • Deliver pre-approved high-quality educational and employment readiness curriculum trainings to students.
  • Contribute to program and training curriculum development related to recovery and peer-focused services.
  • Regularly attend staff meetings, participate in community outreach, and promote REI's program services in the community.
  • Adhere to all agency and program policies and procedures.
  • Maintain compliance standards in accordance with HIPAA, State, County, and organizational guidelines to ensure client confidentiality, protected health information (PHI), and quality of care.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics in accordance with Pacific Clinics policies and procedures.
  • Model Pacific Clinics' approach, mission, and core values in all communication and correspondence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • B.A. degree required or minimum of 10 years college-level tutoring experience.
  • Certified as a Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist preferred but not required.
  • Individual or family member of individual who has lived experience with mental/behavioral health condition or the mental health system preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, Farsi, or Arabic preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with computers and other forms of advanced technology utilized in providing high-quality counseling and instruction.
  • Flexible work schedule to include occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must know or quickly acquire extensive knowledge of local community resources.
  • Class C driver's license, daily access to a car, and proof of valid automobile insurance.
